Evenes

The small Northern Norwegian village of Evenes is located along the northern shore of the Ofotfjorden, about 3 kilometres south of Harstad/Narvik Airport, Evenes and the European route E10 highway. The village is the location of the historic Evenes Church.

Evenes is known for its Sami culture with the Várdobáiki Sami Centre and the Gállogieddi Open air museum. These centres give you a great insight into the Sami traditions and culture.

Other experiences in Evenes is the spectacular Trollkirka, one of Norway's longest limestone caves with pot-holes, deep ravines and cascades, which can only be described as a remarkable nature experience.

Evenes can also offer great hiking trails and very good sea fishing spots.

When visiting this region, a good spot to explore is the Narvik War Museum. This museum has a large collection from WWII. The museum tells the stories of WWII in North Norway and the dramatic fight for Narvik in 1940. The museum has a section devoted to universal questions related to war and human rights.
