4 days - Sámi cultural experiences on this short Autumn stay

In the far north of Finnish Lapland, on the edge of beautiful Lake Inari, the new Wilderness Hotel Inari is a remote retreat where wild forests and lakes provide the backdrop to the day’s adventures. In Autumn, the leaves on the trees turn orange and yellow, the tundra turns to the most beautiful hues of red, and the entire landscape explodes into incredible colours.

Besides the autumn-colours, also the Northern Lights season begins. Even though the Northern Lights are often associated with cold and snowy winter scenery, it doesn't mean they don't show in the milder months! The Finns even have a specific name for the autumn auroras, Double Auroras, because of the reflection they create when they are dancing above the lake.

    SUSTAINABLE TRAVEL:

As a Nordic destination specialist one of our key principles is to ensure that we share the beauty of our homeland, whilst also protecting it for future generations. One way we can do that is by reducing the effects of over-tourism and encouraging travel in low season. This itinerary is a great example of that; Northern Light searching is typically associated with the colder winter months of Dec-Feb when tourist numbers soar and facilities can become stretched, placing a burden on the environment. This tour is the best of both worlds; it encourages travel in Autumn when traveller numbers are far lower, and therefore it helps to spread revenue and side-effects from over-tourism across the seasons, and it showcases the beauty of the region to the traveller in a different, yet equally impressive season, away from the crowds.

Your accommodation for your stay has received the Green Key eco-label (the leading standard for excellence in the field of environmental responsibility and sustainable operation within the tourism industry) and is currently undergoing Visit Finland’s Sustainable Travel Finland program. Their environmental responsibility includes decreasing water and energy consumption, recycling most of their waste, ensure food ingredients are sourced locally where possible, reducing plastic by replacing single use cups with more sustainable options and ensuring that all of their safaris only use marked trails to reduce habitat degradation.

The Sami people are Europe’s only indigenous people, and the village of Inari is the centre for Finnish Sami culture. Your accommodation provider for this tour works closely with the local Sami population and operates in accordance with the Sami Tourism code of ethics. They are one of the biggest employers in the area and are proud to provide employment to the local population. In addition to this they present authentic local art and culture in their accommodations, and they support local children’ and youth’s hobbies by donating money and lending their vehicles.

We are a small, family run business with our headquarters in Norway. As a Nordic destination specialist, we ensure that all our outbound sales staff are Nordic in nationality, this not only provides our travellers with the expertise required to design an enriching experience, but it also ensures that we are providing employment opportunities for local people. Our employees are all paid above the living wage minimum, with additional financial benefits in place to create a fair working place for all. We also recognise the importance of creating employment opportunities for underrepresented populations, and as such over 50% of our management team are female. In addition to this we are proud to partner with education institutions and provide internship opportunities, which has led onto full time positions with our team.
