Ittoqqortoormiit - named from the Greenlandic 'The place with the big houses'.

Ittoqqortoormiit sits on a small peninsula framed by ice and the Scoresby Sund. 500 inhabitants currently reside in the isolated town of Ittoqqortoormiit, although this is rapidly decreasing every year due to the lack of work. Locals have relied on seal hunting and selling pelts as the main source of income which has been affected by the western change in attitude towards buying animal pelts.

Two shipments of supplies are delivered during summer months to support the inhabitants for the year. Dogsledding trips and High Arctic tourism Adventures run from Ittoqqortormitt with the hope that this will sustain and develop the community.
