The Arctic is not one landscape. Over seven days on this new group tour, it changes several times: from the fjords of northern Norway to the open fells of Kilpisjärvi, then to the forests of Finnish Lapland, and finally to Rovaniemi, home of the Santa Claus Village and SantaPark, at the Arctic Circle. The route is designed so you can notice each change.
Why this tour
A route that follows the land. You begin in Tromsø, cross the Lyngen region into Finland, and stay close to the point where Norway, Sweden and Finland meet. Each stop shows a different side of the north, and the travel between them is part of the experience.
Great odds for the Northern Lights. Tromsø, Kilpisjärvi and Harriniva are all well placed for aurora, and Kilpisjärvi has almost no artificial light. A night-time snowshoe walk is planned for one evening, and the lodge dinners leave room for a clear sky. Sightings can never be promised, but the route gives you real chances.
Time to settle. You stay two nights in both Kilpisjärvi and Harriniva, so there is less packing and more time in each place.
Activities you take part in. You drive a snowmobile to the Border of Three Countries, walk on snowshoes under the winter sky, and fish through the ice beside an open fire. At Harriniva you drive your own husky team for 10 to 12 km, then visit a reindeer farm to learn about herding traditions and take a sleigh ride through the forest.
