MS Fridtjof Nansen is one of Hurtigruten's purpose-built expedition ships, designed to take travellers into some of the world's most spectacular and remote destinations. Named after the Norwegian polar explorer, scientist and humanitarian, she joined Hurtigruten's expedition fleet in 2020.

MS Fridtjof Nansen was designed as a sister ship to MS Roald Amundsen, combining modern Scandinavian design, advanced technology and a strong focus on exploration. Her hybrid-electric propulsion system helps reduce fuel consumption and emissions, while the ship's expedition facilities provide a comfortable base for exploring remote destinations.

THE EXPEDITION EXPERIENCE

Each voyage is accompanied by a dedicated Expedition Team of specialists and experienced explorers. The team provides lectures, presentations, guiding and activities designed to help guests understand the places they visit.

The expedition experience is about spending time outside and getting closer to nature. Depending on the destination and conditions, guests may use expedition boats and other equipment to explore remote coastlines and landing sites.

The ship carries equipment including expedition boats, kayaks and underwater technology, giving the Expedition Team additional ways to introduce guests to the marine environment.

The Captain and Expedition Team may adapt activities and itineraries according to local conditions, weather and safety. Wildlife sightings are never guaranteed, which is part of the nature of expedition travel.
