ICEHOTEL Activities & Events

ICEHOTEL proudly presents live music events during winter.

Winter Activities and Events at the ICEHOTEL:

The ICEHOTEL has a great line up of free live music each winter. Showcasing local bands that reflect diversity of Swedish Lapland’s contemporary cultural scene, you will love your evenings at ICEHOTEL. You can expect everything from folk, to blues, & opera to American root & all-female choir music and fusions thereof.

As well as live music, each year in March, ICEHOTEL throws a Harvest Festival to celebrate the start of the harvest season. Learn more about our harvest process, eat traditional Laplandish food and listen to some swedish folk music groups. And at Christmas time, you will find Santa sitting near the entrance of the ICEHOTEL, ready for a cuddle and a regular Christmas market on certain days.

Moose Safari on Horseback

You often spot wildlife in the forests around Kiruna; like moose, reindeer, birds, hare, and fox – an unbeatable experience. Enhance that experience and see the winter wonderland in broad daylight from the horseback.

You are picked up at ICEHOTEL by bus and taken to Ofelaš Icelandic horse farm where you get to meet the animals and prepare your own horse. You ride the Icelandic horses through the moose’s grazing land with an amazing view over Sweden’s highest mountain range Kebnekaise. The king of the forest, the moose, is often seen in this area getting their food during winter, and you have a chance to come really close. This nature adventure has everything – beautiful views, wild animals, and strong horses.

After the ride, you help unsaddle the horses and you are served a three-course traditional lunch. The tour ends with a transfer back to ICEHOTEL.

Ice Sculpting Class

Do as ICEHOTEL’s artists; create your own ice sculpture from Torne River ice.

Take an intense course in ice sculpting, a must when you’re at ICEHOTEL. The class starts with the instructor talking about the crystal clear ice, which is harvested from Tore River. After that, you get an introduction on how to use the tools, your own ice block and can let the creativity flow and ice take shape. Take the opportunity to create your own ice sculpture out of the pristine natural ice — something many artists dream of.Icehotel Ice Sculpting

Miessemánnu – Reindeer calf month May

Be our guest among our precious reindeer herd. An exclusive, once-in-a-lifetime experience awaits you when the reindeer herder meets you among hundreds of reindeer. It is a unique opportunity to watch new-born reindeer calves taking their first steps. Receive first-hand information by reindeer herders who conduct reindeer husbandry as a lifestyle based on traditional Sámi knowledge. Round off your visit by savouring a traditional Sámi meal in a lávvu-tent whilst sitting around a crackling open fire to get a real taste of Sápmi.

Upon arrival to the forest in the middle of Sápmi, the reindeer herder welcomes you to the corrals with reindeer. You will learn about the reindeer, reindeer husbandry and its challenges, for example climate change. The month of May is called miessemánnu in North Sámi language and means month of the reindeer calf. And this is usually the season when calving starts, continuing into June.

After meeting the reindeer herd, you will be served a traditional Sámi meal that is cooked over open fire in a lávvu-tent. While coffee and tea are served the reindeer herder will have time to answer your questions. The bright hours of the midnight sun are approaching and will provide a wonderful setting for your visit in Silkkimuotka and for your transfer back home.

Fishing Adventure at the ICEHOTEL

Try your fishing luck. Fish for grayling and trout in one of northern Europe’s best fishing waters.

Fishing has always been an important part of the tradition and culture in Jukkasjärvi. On this tour, you get to try your fishing luck and be a part of our culture. We start with trying out some casting techniques on land before getting in the wooden riverboat. The fishing guide takes you to the best fishing sites in Torne River and hopefully, you’ll catch grayling or trout. Coffee, tea and Swedish Fika is served during the tour and perhaps we get to grill a fish before we head back?
