1. What was the idea behind starting KOK Oslo?

It was four years ago when Kristin first discovered the floating sauna concept during a team-building trip in the archipelago outside Stockholm. The combination of hot, relaxing saunas and refreshing, cooling dips in the sea had her hooked. She quickly decided we needed one in Oslo!

Then she met Paal, who is not only a sauna-enthusiast but an entrepreneur. Together they decided to launch KOK Oslo in early 2018.

2. What do you love most about Oslo?

Oslo is lodged between forested hills and the Oslofjord, giving us a great combination of bustling city life with easy access to the great outdoors. Oslo has become a food-lovers mecca over the past decade, and the cultural- and live music scene is truly brilliant for a small capital.

3. Are KOK Oslo's clients mainly locals or do you also entertain international visitors?

Our guests are a good mix of locals and visitors. Some are regulars while others have never swam in really cold water before. Many guests arrive at the floating sauna thinking they won't go in the water, but everyone always ends up going in for a cooling dip...

We love hosting people from other countries; seeing the childlike joy of self-mastery and endorphin-rush of someone who braved the icy cold water for the first time is such a fabulous treat for us KOK Oslo founders!

4. Oslo has had one of the coldest and longest winters in a long time, how did this affect business at KOK?

KOK Oslo was launched in February 2018, so right now we can't compare business with previous milder winters. One of the reasons we launched KOK was to offer people an alternative outdoor winter-activity besides skiing and ice-skating; regardless of temperature. Based on chats with our customers it's obvious that people have different preferences when it comes to weather: Some of our guests feel disappointed when the ice on the Oslofjord melts, while others prefer waiting till spring.

5. Why should people visit KOK OSLO and what can they expect?

A visit to KOK Oslo is an unusual experience you will never forget. A sauna-master and lifeguard will be present during your session to provide you with water, firewood and to answer any questions you may have. From the toasty warm sauna you can enjoy spectacular views of the Oslo City skyline, with the beautiful Opera House and the soon to be finished Munch Museum as the main focal points.

The sauna offers a quiet yet revitalizing break in the midst of a busy schedule; comparable to a quick visit to a far away cabin while remaining in the middle of the city. Lean back and thoroughly enjoy some me-time, the Nordic way.
