Warsaw

Warsaw is essentially a post-war city with a meticulously reconstructed Old Town.

Warsaw is the capital of Poland and, with 1.7 million inhabitants, its largest city. It is located on the Vistula River, roughly equidistant (350 km, 217 mi) from both the Baltic Sea in the north and the Carpathian Mountains in the south. Sightseeing opportunities include the Royal Route and the Old Town with the Royal Castle, St John's Cathedral, the Old Town Market Square and the Barbican. It is also lovely to visit the Royal Lazienki Park with the Palace on the Water.

Learn about the polish people's spirit with a visit to the Warsaw uprising museum. Explore old Praga to get more shady (but safe) insight into old Warsaw. Find charming art cafes and galleries hidden around the back streets.

Almost half the area of the city is green. There are as many as 95 parks with Łazienki heading the list. In the summer, the famous Chopin Concerts take place in a unique outdoor setting, while in the historical interiors of the theatre founded by King Stanisław August you can hear music by contemporary composers.

A wise investment may be the Warsaw Tourist Card, which can either be purchased for a 24 hour period or three days. The card will get you into museums for free or for a discount. It also doubles as a ticket for public transportation in Warsaw. You may also be able to get discounts at galleries, sports facilities, shops, restaurants, and discounted tours, car rentals, or accommodation.
