Gothenburg

Gothenburg

Gothenburg is Sweden's second largest city.

Founded in 1621 by King Gustav Adolphus, Gothenburg (Göteborg)  is Sweden’s second largest city and lies on the west coast of the country in the county of Bohuslän. With a small centre, it is easy to get around in Gothenburg with small parks close by. Gothenburg hosts the largest fun park in northern Europe, Liseberg with a breathtaking rollercoaster. With easy parking close by, Liseberg is conveniently close to the main E20 freeway.

Gothenburg’s location on the sea has made it famous for the quality and variety of seafood dishes. Gothenburg is also one of the few remaining tram cities in the world with a system that spans the city and is the most extensive in Scandinavia.

A great place to eat when visiting Gothenburg is Magnus & Magnus - fine dining, Swedish style. Magasinsgatan 8 | 411 18 Göteborg.

Another spot to visit in this region is the Bohuslän coast and islands that stretch from just outside Gothenburg on Sweden's west coast, all the way up to the Norwegian border. CNN Travel rightly named it as 'one of the ten great wilderness areas left in the world' particularly as a kayaking destination and let's just say that its mix of deserted islands and pretty coastal villages make it unique in Europe. You should go here for the lobster, oyster and other shellfish delights of the villages of Grebbestad, Fjällbacka, Smögen and Lysekil, as well as safe kayaking among the sheltered isles.
