Maki

The fish restaurant attached to our preferred hotel, Maki comes highly recommended. Amazing fresh seafood, a great bar and very good service. Not cheap but worth it.

Restaurant MAKI is part of Hotel Brosundet. The exterior wall of Apotekergata 5 drops straight down into the Brosund sound. This is the true heart of the town of Ålesund. Just as in days of old, from the windows of the building – originally a warehouse – you can still see boats sailing in and out of the sound, and fishing boats delivering their catch.

The open-plan design enables guests to watch as the chefs conjure up the fish dishes that have made us famous. The visual impressions and, not least, the delicious aromas, whet the appetite.

MENU:
At Restaurant MAKI they serve a new menu every month. Their eight-course Chef's menu, based on the catch of the day, is spoken of with awe and reverence by gourmets and competitors alike.

The waiter will be pleased to talk you through the menu: perhaps the Jerusalem artichoke soup with mussels; halibut steamed with ginger and chilli; grilled monkfish with ratatouille, broccolini and a shellfish sauce; beetroot granité with a Szechuan flower; ling with cauliflower cream and lightly pickled red onion; or cod tongue tempura?

For dessert what about blackcurrant pannacotta with aniseed and mint, home-made ice cream with port-marinated plums or a selection of local cheeses from Tingvoll served with nuts and honey?

You can also opt for a four- to five-course menu, or choose exactly what you want from the à la carte menu. Our sommelier will be pleased to suggest suitable wines to complement your menu choices.
