    Itinerary

    Day 1 - Arrive Reykjavik.

Arrive into Reykjavik and take the door-to-door Flybus (approximately 1 hour from the airport) to your hotel in the centre of town. After settling in, the afternoon and evening is yours to explore the compact & vibrant city centre with its abundance of museums, restaurants and bars to suit all tastes. If you're interested in checking out Icelandic design or experiencing the city's thriving coffee culture, head to the main street, Laugavegur, and enjoy its various shops and cosy cafes. Be sure to check out the Harp Opera house on the harbour.

We also suggest a visit to the Aurora Reykjavik Museum in the heart of downtown. It is Iceland's first educational and recreational Northern Lights Centre where multimedia is used to explain when, why and how the Northern Lights work, with the highlights being large HD projection of the Auroras.

Day 2 - Golden Circle Highlights - Þingvellir, then Gullfoss Waterfall and Geysir

Pick up at 08.30am and head off for a tour to the famous Golden Circle including Þingvellir-Gullfoss-Geysir. The home of the ancient viking parliament, Þingvellir National Park, is our first stop - well known as the location for the the fourth & fifth season of the Game of Thrones. Visit the Haukadalur area, the home of the great Geyser and other hot springs, among them the reliable Strokkur geyser that erupts with 3 to 7 minutes intervals, spouting hot water up as high as 15-30m. The magnificent Gullfoss is not far away and you will enjoy the sight of it cascading down the whitecoloured Hvítá River.

We then head up the Kjölur mountain track up to Langjökull glacier for a look and feel of the glacier. During the summer months we take the backroads through lava fields for a super jeep adventure back to Reykjavík.

Today you will head out from your hotel at 08.30am.

The tour then continues by car right past the Eyjafjallajökull volcano towards the great Mýrdalsjökull glacier, one of the largest in Iceland. Driving through the region affected by the eruption and seeing how this outburst of nature’s forces has changed the appearance of the landscape is a very unique experience. A glacier walk on the Sólheimajökull glacier tongue between ice sculptures, ridges and deep crevasses will complete your day.

Day 4 - Arrive Akureyri, the largest town in the north of Iceland

This morning, take the flybus to the domestic airport where you'll board a 60 minute flight to the beautiful town of Akureyri.

Often referred to as the "capital" of the north, Akureyri is by far the largest town in the north of Iceland and it's the second largest urban area in Iceland with a population little less than 20,000. Located only 60 kilometres from the Arctic circle, the mountains in the area are often capped with snow year round.

For the next two nights you'll be staying at the comfortable hotel right in the town's centre.

Day 5 - Explore Lake Mývatn, Goðafoss , Hverir Mud Pools, Grjótagjá Rift, Dimmuborgir Lava Fields and many more

Today you will be entering the other worldly landscapes of Lake Myvatn where the scenes for "North of the Wall" were filmed. You will be picked up at your hotel at 8am and then have a full day of touring this area.

The Lake Mývatn area is considered by many to be the most beautiful and, at the same time, the most catastrophic place in Iceland. You will begin the day by stopping at Goðafoss Waterfall on our way to Lake Mývatn. Goðafoss is a picturesque waterfall in Skjálfandafljót River. The first stop by Lake Mývatn is at the pseudo-craters of Skútustaðagígar. From there we visit all the highlights of the area, such as Hverir Mud Pools, Grjótagjá Rift, Dimmuborgir Lava Fields and many more.

Our last stop by Lake Mývatn before our return to Akureyri is the Mývatn Nature Baths where you can enjoy a relaxing soak in a Geothermal Pool. The entry fee to the Nature Baths is not included in the tour price, but can be added as extra or paid on sight. We stop for at least 1 hour at the Nature Baths.

You will stop along the way for lunch (not included) and we recommend bringing good walking shoes, bathing suit and towel (can be rented), water bottle and warm clothing in winter time.
