The Nordic region and Russia lends itself well for a coastal or river voyage. We have brought you a selection of new and classic routes on board new ships, and traditional older boats lovingly converted to match modern standards.

50 Degrees North is an official representative for Hurtigruten, offering a range of magnificent voyages along the long and rugged Norwegian coast. Today the Hurtigruten fleet is equipped with modern facilities, yet a voyage on board one of these coastal steamers holds its traditional charm. The ships continue to service the numerous small coastal villages of Norway, transporting mail, goods and people just like it has done since 1893.

Ships have played a big role in the history of expeditions, sailing to the unknown and uncovering the secrets of nature. Our professionally run expedition cruises honour the seafarer heritage and take you to places often unreachable by land, to discover rare wildlife and extraordinary sceneries.

All the voyages showcase the way our forefathers travelled, without rush, taking their time to journey slowly and soak in new experiences. We hope to bring the magic of old-world voyages back to you with this exclusive selection of the most intimate vessels sailing on beautiful routes through the Nordic region and Russia.

Norwegian Coast

Our new range of tours, ‘Norwegian Coast’, comes from the heart. With pride, we offer unique independent itineraries exploring secret coastal gems along Norway’s long coast. These tours utilise coastal ferries, regional trains, buses and express boats to get you around. And bicycles too if you wish.

The itineraries combine well-known towns and regions like Bergen, Ålesund, Trondheim, Lofoten and Tromsø, with lesser-known coastal secrets like Romsdalsfjorden, Helgeland, the UNESCO World Heritage listed Vega islands, Vesterålen, Senja and Lyngsfjorden.

Never heard of these places? Well, if you want to step away from the well-trodden and busy tourist trails of Norway, and travel with the locals, then come with us and explore.

Take the scenic detour by car, or by express ferry and get more out of your coastal holiday along the breathtaking Norwegian shoreline. You will see a lot more than the average traveller, and have far better stories to tell.

Hurtigruten Norway

50 Degrees North is proud to be a Norwegian incoming tour operator for Hurtigruten. Experience the natural, unspoiled beauty of Norway's coastline with these voyages on the Hurtigruten ships. These postal ships call at over 30 ports as part of their support to the isolated Norwegian communities, and you can be part of their voyage.

These ships travel continuously from Bergen in the Southwest to Kirkenes on the Russian border. From the Midnight Sun of summer through the changing seasons that set the rhythm of life for the locals, you can experience the truly Norwegian way of life on a Norwegian Coastal Voyage. We visit ports, some of which are home to just a few hundred inhabitants, delivering freight, and of course, intrepid passengers to explore the coastal towns and surroundings.

Some of our packages include full voyages from Bergen to Kirkenes (7 days), Kirkenes to Bergen (6 days). We can also strongly recommend you to do shorter port-to-port voyages, allowing you to stop longer in the most scenic areas, and tailor this with other Norwegian travel experiences. The sailing schedule can be read here.
