Game of Thrones Tour in Iceland
Where the winter lasts a lifetime and the battle for the Iron Throne has commenced.
50 Degrees North’s offers a wide range of independent tours to Iceland, where you will find out for yourself what has been drawing the producers to the real life locations of the most favourite series of all times, Game of Thrones.
Game of Thrones goes against the vast majority of the rules of what is considered conventional TV and the popularity of the show is thriving. The show is challenging to discuss in detail as it often leaves you in complete bewilderment due its many twists and punch lines. What makes the show so epic is the fact that it draws on the notion that everyone, despite status, is their own character in their voyage through life’s many obstacles.
Iceland Game of Thrones tour, now called Golden Circle and Northern Highlights – Winter or Summer allows you to discover Northern Iceland and visit the filming locations of season 3 & 4 and 5. Visiting the Þingvellir National Park and Lake Mývatn, this 7-day independent tour runs every day of the year. Conducting the tour in winter also means opportunities to see the Northern Lights, and a guided evening tour in search of the magical lights is included in our package.
In the first section of the tour, you will visit the regions filmed in the fourth and fifth season of the Game of Thrones. The fifth season has been filmed near the Þingvellir National Park over the European summer of 2014 so for the first time, fans will see Iceland in it’s summer glory.
You will also visit specific spots from the third series such as the areas where Night's Watchmen, including Samwell Tarly and Lord Commander Mormont, are attacked by the White Walkers. Walk the land that Jon Snow, Ygritte and the Free Folk cross to reach the Wall. You will also see Grjótagjá, the small lava cave near Lake Mývatn in northeast Iceland where Jon Snow and Ygritte have their first intimate romantic encounter.
