Day 1: Arrival Faroe Islands and collect rental car


Arrive at the wonderful Faroe Islands in the far North Atlantic. Collect your rental car from the airport and drive to the village of Gjógv. The route will take you through many colourful villages, through valleys and over high mountains, giving you an impression of the kind of adventures that await you in the week ahead. Day 2 & 3: Explore the village of Gjógv


Explore the village of Gjógv, aptly described as a playground for children. Splash around in the stream that runs down the mountain and through the village, or take the walk called “fyri Oman Rætt” with a map that describes the route in a series of short stories. Join one of the locals who will tell you fascinating stories about sheep whilst you help to feed them. Overnight accommodation in Gjógv.

Day 4: Drive via Eiði to Summerhouse on Streymoy


Take the mountain road to Eiði where you will pass the highest mountain called Slættaratindur (882 m). Enjoy the view of “Risin og Kellingin”, two free-standing cliffs known as the “Giant and the Old Hag”. According to legend, these two figures were a couple who turned to stone as they tried to drag the Faroe Islands to Iceland. In Eiði you can relax on the pebbled beach or play football on the pitch next to the beach. If you are hungry, you have the chance to buy something to eat before you drive over the one and only bridge across the Atlantic! Continue to your chosen accommodation on Streymoy.

Day 5: Village of Vestmanna


Today you will depart from the village of Vestmanna to enjoy a two hour boat trip to the Vestmanna bird cliffs, where you will sail between the cliffs and into some of the grottoes. Fishing is next on the agenda. Approximately 15 minutes drive up the mountain from Vestmanna, you will have the chance to fish in the lake at “Lómundaroyru”. Overnight accommodation on Streymoy.

Day 6: Day in Tórshavn


A chance to enjoy the day in Tórshavn, the world’s smallest capital. Explore Reyn, the oldest part of the town with its small grass roofed houses and narrow lanes. A visit to a local family with children can be arranged *. In Tórshavn you can choose between swimming, tenpin bowling, a visit to Sjósavnið, the local aquarium (with saltwater fish from around the Faroe Islands), museums, the cinema and much much more. Day 7: Day at Nólsoy


Take the ferry Ternan from the harbour across to Nólsoy. There are only a few cars on the island, so you can enjoy the peace and quiet of village life. See Ro Ove’s boat “Diana Victoria”. Ro Ove, the local hero, single-handedly rowed to Langelinje in Denmark to kiss the famous Little Mermaid. Visit the taxidermist Jens Kjeld, who has an extensive collection of stuffed Faroese birds and see what is left of the house where a Scottish princess once lived. If you feel like catching crabs or fishing, you can borrow a bucket, spade and fishing net from the tourist information office. Food is available at the tourist information or “Kaffistovan”. Return with the ferry Ternan and overnight on Streymoy.
