The municipality of Bodø has lots of wilderness to offer hikers. 10 kilometers north of Bodø lies the popular recreation area Geitvågen. The area is inhabited by a large number of White-tailed Eagles. There are 17 nature reserves in the area. You can easily explore the area and it is great for kids.

The city lies just north of the Arctic Circle where the midnight sun is visible from 2 June to 10 July. It is in the Northern region of Norway and has a busy airport. You fly here when visiting the Lofoten Islands or travelling further north.
