Aurora Borealis
We have just released a new brochure "Winter 2013/2014" and we would love to send you a copy. Please e-mail: info@fiftydegreesnorth.com or phone: 1300 422 821 (local call Australia)
These tours are dedicated to the phenomena of the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights). This is because the northern winter of 2012/2013 is predicted to display some of the most intense occurrences of Aurora Borealis in over a decade, as the 11 year cycle of the sun comes to its peak. The main cause of the Northern Light is the number of dark spots on the surface of the sun, i.e. the more spots the better chance of Auroras. The northern winter 2012/13 and 2013/14 is nearing this so called Solar Maximum.
These natural displays of green, white and purple light occur most frequently in the Polar Regions in a 2500 km radius off the geomagnetic pole. The zone with the most intense sightings of Aurora Borealis extends over Lapland in northern Scandinavia, Iceland, Greenland, Canada, Alaska and Siberia. As it happens this is our specialist area.
Feedback from our 2012 Aurora Borealis tours:
"I just wanted to thank you for arranging such a wonderful trip for my husband and myself to see the Northern Lights. We enjoyed the trip and the fact that the Northern Lights were so active was definitely wonderful.I must congratulate you on your expertise for all our connections - Planes, trains, ship, taxi etc. When we told people of our trip, they wanted to know our travel agent, who I would highly recommend. We appreciate the trouble you went to as it would have taken a lot of research to have done it ourselves. Thank you again." Noeline & Terry, Feb 2012
